22 February 1864 – 28 February 1864
27 February 1864
-Wrote to the Papers proposing to name the new bridge at Blackfriars ' Shakespeare Bridge,' — with statues if they Hke. The Blackfriars and the Globe Theatres stood near this place. A bridge is the best place in London for statues. In vain. The Times said it was not an English custom to give the names of writers to our streets or public places. Excellent argument. Ballad : ' The Abbot of Inis- falen.'
