2 November 1868 – 8 November 1868
2 November 1868
Invited to Miss Dickson's. Pay pensioners. Kind Miss D. in her pretty rooms, but * not well,' — I wish the good soul could be well. Out and walk in the dusk on Boldrewood Road, sunset fading, dark trees, owls do cry. Already a drift of withered leaves. Return and see, like a pale smoke, the moon-dawn mounting. At dinner with Miss D. and self, only Mr. Darwin, son of Charles Darwin.
