4 March 1872 – 10 March 1872

Warm. Sit in Carlyle's room while he is punctuating the Saga translation. We walk to Hyde Park, dodging the carriages some- times, at risk. (He may catch his death thus, for he usually insists on crossing when he has made up his mind to it, carrying his stick so as to poke it into a horse's nose at need.) Call at Lady Ashburton's, and back to Chelsea.
